A Day in the Life of a Sixth Former

Being a day student I arrive at school on one of the PHC School buses.

My day is usually a mixture of studies and lessons. I currently study three A-levels; English Literature, History and French.

My classes are small and personal; incredibly useful as it allows my teachers and I to work together and tailor lessons to ensure I am getting the most from my lessons.

For instance, in History we have spent a lot of time discussing essay structures because this is something my teacher thinks can benefit me specifically.

My teachers are always easy to approach and often spend time outside of lessons to improve my essay writing skills.

During lunch I might be involved in our extra-curricular programme, SCITLLE (Serve, Create, Inspire, Thrive, Lead, Learn and Explore). For me, this includes activities such as debating or Model United Nations. On other days, I have the opportunity to go into Hitchin, our local town.

We have three Houses at PHC, Gloucester, Windsor and York. Each term we have House events during which pupils across all year groups work together as a House.  This gives us a chance to bond with other year groups.

Following my lessons, I have time after school to take part in more SCITLLE activities or to do my prep. As Sixth Formers we have a dedicated study area,  and we can also use the Libraries. We have access to a spacious and well-equiped kitchen area, and where we can cook, work or catch up with friends, which we all enjoy.

I find the time after school especially useful for studying or taking part in activities generally as I think it is a good way to really get involved in the whole School community.
