Year 7 flautist
Joseph Haydn, who walked our corridors, is the School's musical inspiration. Whether lessons, termly concerts, informal recitals or professional performances and workshops, music resounds around PHC throughout the year.
The Music Faculty has a new Recital Room that complements the teaching spaces in Old Hall and The Princess Alice Hall perfectly.
The department is staffed by experienced and talented musicians, who work together to provide a high quality music education.
PHC students have gone on to study at prestigious universities and music colleges, including Merton College, Oxford, The Royal College of Music, The Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College, London and Birmingham Conservatoire.
Many students take individual instrumental or singing lessons, given by our excellent visiting teachers.
PHC hosts public concerts and puts on masterclasses and workshops to support our own students as well as external ones. Recent concerts have included performances by The Gildas Quartet, The Aurora Trio and world-famous pianists Pascal and Ami Rogé.
Concerts take place every term, both formal and informal. Our students also perform in outside concert venues.
Regular musical productions such as ‘Grease,’ ‘Wizard of Oz,’ ‘Fame,’ Bugsy Malone’ and ‘Oliver.’
Visits are arranged to concerts, opera and musicals.
There is a busy programme of co-curricular activities, encompassing choirs, orchestra, band, chamber groups, wind band, among others, as well as aural training and theory classes.
