It is important in the 21st century to be aware of scientific meanings, to evaluate numerical information about our world critically and with confidence, and to feel capable of making informed decisions where scientific or technological knowledge is required.
Our Science Department has outstanding facilities that include:
- A science technology room
- A preparation room
- Extensive grounds for fieldwork and experiments
Key Stage 3
We believe every child in the modern world not only has the potential to be a scientist, but simply has to be one. In Years 7-9 we develop students' enthusiasm for, and foundation skills in, science. We do so by using varied teaching approaches appropriate to each pupil whilst also offering a high level of practical experience.
Key Stage 4
We offer GCSE Double and Triple Awards. At GCSE students are taught by subject specialists in:
The Faculty, however works very much as a team so the experience for the students is cohesive, focused and meets every student's needs regardless of whether they are taking the Double or Triple Award and whether they are a gifted scholar or find science demanding.
50% of Sixth Form students study a science A Level, which reflects the support and quality of lessons.
However, we go beyond dedicated lesson time: the small class sizes allow for students to have a significant amount of one to one tuition enabling teachers to identify weaknesses and students to thrive at their own ability-level.
The students also have access to a large amount of support resources that encourages independent learning, a skill essential for university life.
