Princess Helena College to join United Learning

Princess Helena College, an independent day and boarding school in Hertfordshire, is to join United Learning. The Governing Body of the College, which currently educates girls aged 11-18, has also announced that, from September 2019, it will begin to accept boys in Year 7 and Year 12.
In an announcement to parents, pupils and staff, David Prosser, the College's Chair of Governors, said:
“Princess Helena College has a proud history which began in 1820. As we approach entering our third century as a school, we look forward to a confident and strong future. In joining United Learning we will be able to thrive alongside others within a group that shares our values and ethos, whilst enabling us to retain our own identity, character and local governance.
"In our discussions with United Learning much thought has been given and analysis done with regard to the school's future offer to families. United Learning concludes that the College needs to move to being a co-educational school. The Governors support that conclusion. From September 2019, therefore, we will gradually become co-educational by accepting boys in Year 7 and Year 12. In this way, every current pupil will be able to continue their education until the Sixth Form in a single sex environment.”
The College has also announced the appointment of Mrs Sarah Davis as its new Head. Mrs Davis, currently Senior Deputy Head at Bedford Modern School, will take up the post at Easter 2019.
Jon Coles, Chief Executive of United Learning, said:
“We are very pleased to welcome Princess Helena College into our group of schools and, together with the College's Governors, to have appointed Sarah Davis as its new Head. We have a thriving group of independent schools and we look forward to sharing the opportunities we can offer pupils and staff with everyone at Princess Helena College. Over the course of our discussions with them, we have been impressed by their ambition for their school and by their commitment to their pupils and their families.”
