PHC Sport End of Term Review
/ Categories: 11 December 2019General
It has been a fantastic start to the academic year for PHC Sport, we have seen a complete transformation of our curriculum, which has been embraced by all students! In Year 7 and Year 12 we have taught mixed PE lessons for the first time, with new sports such as rugby being ‘tackled’ head on while basketball has seen our pupils ‘bouncing’ around! In the new year hockey will no doubt be a ‘hit’ and we are certain students will be ‘bowled over’ by the cricket clubs we have planned for this summer!
Our new TAG Team programme has promoted student leadership in sport, with nearly a third of the school applying to be sports captains, 30 pupils now have a leadership role within PE as either a captain or vice captain. In the new year our TAG Team will have the opportunity to coach or lead others in lessons and co-curricular activities, taking sport at PHC to the next level!
We have seen the ‘Star of the Week’ celebrate the incredible achievements of our students in PE, with Ben in Year 12, Zahra in Year 7, Georgie in Year 11, Cameron in Year 7, Macy in Year 7, Lily in Year 11, Mel in Year 9 and lastly this week, Mimi in Year 8 all picking up the award this term!
The outstanding effort by our students in co-curricular this term has been rewarded, with noticeable success in a range of sports. Our Year 9 Girls cross country team came 2nd in the District event, our U12s and U14s Girls basketball teams became District Champions and qualified for the County finals, while our Senior netball team head into the new year with many victories! Our proudest moment however came at this week’s Hitchin Rugby Club festival, where we had our first ever contact games against other Hertfordshire Schools….and we won every match! Lastly, we are excited to create history by having our first ever boys’ fixtures in the new year…so watch this space!
Team PE would like to thank all students, parents and staff for their continued support and we look forward to a prosperous 2020!
