End of Term Message from Mrs Davis
/ Categories: 05 July 2019General
It has been a very busy summer term here at PHC, with much to celebrate and to enjoy. We have hurtled towards the end of term with many events, not least just the last week, where we said farewell to Year 13 at their wonderful Prom, had the most fantastic Sports Day (and the weather was beautiful and not too hot) and then a superb Speech Day, where the weather was extremely hot, but nonetheless it was great to see the swimming pool in full use!
This term has been challenging for the students with either public or internal examinations – they are to be congratulated for their determination and hard work and also I must thank you, our parents, for your constant support and the assistance you give the students.
But there has also been much fun along the way as well – musical events and dramatic performances, considerable success in sport, especially most recently in athletics, and several experiences of D of E expeditions.
As I said at Speech Day I would like to thank all the staff here who work so hard to ensure we can give our students the very best opportunities across all areas of school life.
We bid farewell to the following staff at the end of this term and they leave us with our very best wishes:
Ms Sarah Robertson, Head of PE; Mrs Brioney Donlevy, Head of Art; Mrs Jill Pittendreigh, Maths Teacher; Mrs Sarah Kerr, Head of Chemistry; Miss Fiona Collins, MFL Teacher; Art Teacher; Ms Rebecca Day, Dance/drama teacher and Miss Nathalie Paitry and Miss Elena Pérez, our MFL and boarding assistants.
Finally, I would like to thank our interim head Mrs Lynda Corry, who tirelessly steered PHC through the first two terms of our next stage of school life. It cannot be underestimated how much hard work and commitment Lynda undertook during this time. I am extremely grateful for all her magnificent efforts. I know how much the students and parents have appreciated her time, care and support during her time at PHC. We wish her a very much deserved rest over the coming months.
This term we have welcomed the arrival of Miss Aisling Birch, our new Marketing Officer and Mrs Leigh-Ann Beel, who is our Examinations and Data Officer.
In September we look forward to welcoming the following new staff:
Mr Jay Szwajbak, Director of Sport; Miss Lucy Prosser, Head of Art; Mrs Kirsti Pateman, English Teacher and a return for Ms Sarah Bellisario who will be undertaking the maternity cover in Art for Mrs Kate Brandon.
And so overall, I think we can agree it has been another very busy year at PHC. This whilst also in June last year announcing that we would join United Learning and also become co-educational. We have already been able to be part of the resources which UL can offer – upgrading of our IT infrastructure with more to come over the summer to improve our WiFi and also to install interactive TV/Whiteboards in all classrooms plus our intention is to embed this further within our teaching and learning through training and the introduction of Ipads. The boarding house has had some extensive refurbishment and over the summer further facilities will be upgraded on the estates.
May I take this opportunity to thank all our members of PHC for their hard work, commitment and support over this last term. I have felt most welcome and look forward to going forwards next term, with many exciting opportunities ahead of us. Whilst we may be reaching 200 years old, and indeed are very proud of our long and esteemed history, we are forward looking and modern going into the start of our next century.
I wish everyone a peaceful and restful time over the summer and look forward to the start of the next stage of our journey in September.
