Boarding Update: 27 November 2020

/ Categories: General

Over the past fortnight boarders have been busy putting their art and design skills to good use – with some superb personalised t-shirts now being worn around the boarding house, an array of dreamcatchers and colourful pom-poms adorning rooms, as well as an amazing self-portrait from one particular – very talented – artist (sshhh, it could be a Christmas presie!)

After sampling some delicious profiteroles courtesy of Years 7 to 10 and a shortbread bake-off between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (chocolate chip versus cinnamon versus traditional Scottish-style) last week, baking took on a festive theme this week with some scrummy ‘sweet snowballs’ – a delicious recipe involving lashings of white chocolate and coconut – which proved to be a huge success at evening snack time.

The whole boarding house – staff and pupils - took up the United Learning inter-school sports challenge last weekend to travel as far as possible in 30 minutes, choosing a whole host of ways to rack up the kilometres. Some decided to do their bit towards the PHC effort indoors on the treadmills, rowing machines and cycling machines (well done to one member of staff who topped the boarding house leaderboard with some very impressive cycling!). Meanwhile others chose to complete the challenge outdoors through dog-walking, cross-country running, cycling and even roller-blading!!

Mention must also go to our hard-working Year 11s, who have engaged well in a structured revision programme, supporting them in their study during evenings and weekends during the past fortnight. They have now completed their two weeks of mock exams, and remained positive and serene throughout  - well done to them, and hurray!

This weekend we will be decking the halls, bringing some festive cheer to the Drawing Room. It is always one of the highlights of the year for us in the boarding House, and we are glad to report that Covid will not be changing this treasured tradition at all.

Until next time, and our final entry of the term, our best wishes to you all, from all of us in the Boarding House.
