Ready, Steady, Read

Ready, Steady, Read

/ Categories: General

To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and school, we will be running a Sponsored Read between Thursday 5 March and Thursday 12 March. This coincides with World Book Day on Thursday 5 March 2020.

The project is being organised in conjunction with our local Usborne Organiser, Susana Rice who visited the school on Wednesday 4 March to launch the event. All money raised will go towards brand new books for Princess Helena College.

In addition to the sponsorship money, Usborne also will donate up to 60% of the total raised in extra free booksto the school. So for every £600 raised, we will get an extra £360 in FREE Usborne books!

Please help us to enhance our reading resources for students by encouraging your child to spend a small amount of time each day either reading to themselves or to others. They can read anything with words (for example comics, recipes, magazines) for as long or as little as they like.

In order to make the most of this exciting opportunity, we will be running the following competition for our students to enter:

  • The Most Unusual Place to Read a Book, whereby students will be asked to have a photograph taken of themselves while reading a book in the most unusual (albeit safe) place they can think of. The winning student will be able to choose and keep a book from the Usborne Catalogue.

Should you wish to support our sponsored read, please find enclosed a sponsorship form for your child. A reading log, to record the minutes they have spent reading, will also be provided.

After the sponsored read, please send all sponsorship money that your child has raised, reading log and the photograph of your child reading a book (if the child entered the Most Unusual Place to Read a Book Competition) to the school by Friday 20 March 2020.

Cheques should be made payable to SUSANA RICE.

Please support our Sponsored Read so that your child has more books to read, share and enjoy.
